Why do I need to cleanse my crystals?

On a practical note crystals get dusty! A dusty crystal is not an effective crystal.
Energetically speaking crystals absorb energy from their environment and may become unbalanced and their energy may feel dull.

When should I cleanse my crystals?

Your intuition is your best tool for knowing when your crystals need cleansing. The more you work with them the more in tune you’ll be with your crystals and be able to pick uyp on when they need cleansing.

When you first receive them

Before and after you use them 

Methods for cleansing your crystals

To physically cleanse your crystals and remove any dust you can gently wipe them with a soft cloth or brush

1. Sunlight
Crystals love soaking up the suns rays!
There is some precautions though – some crystals will focus and reflect the light and this may be a firs hazard – because of this your crystals should never be left in the sun for extended periods unattended. Some crystals will fade if placed in the sun for too long. There include:

2. Moonlight
Cleanse your crystals by the moonlight and harness the powerful energy of the full moon. To do so simply place your crystals our under the night sky – if it’s raining popping them on the windowsill is still effective.

3. Water
Water is a popular choice as it energetically and physically cleanses your crystals. Hold your crystals under fresh running water for a few minutes or use moon water (water charged under the full moon) to bathe them in.

Not all crystals can get wet. Some will dissolve, crack or release toxins. As a general rule crystals with a MOH’s scale of 1 – 5 should not get wet. This includes

4. Sound
Sound cleansing involves using sound waves and vibrations – its a great noninvasive method to cleanse your crystals and you can cleanse many at once!
One of the easiest ways to do this is with singing bowls. Singing bowls create sound vibrations that are believed to flush out negative energy. To cleanse your crystals simply strike your bowl and allow your crystals to absorb the vibrations.

5. Smoke
For many years smoke has been used in cleansing rituals to cleanse oneself, environment and even crystals.
Sage, palo Santo or a mixture of herbs are burnt and the smoke is then wafted around the space.
When smoke cleansing open all windows and doors to give the smoke and negative energy a place to escape. Always use a fire safe dish to catch any embers and to extinguish your item when finished.
Never leave burning items alone.
Be mindful of falling embers
Keep clothes and hair away from any burning items
Do not directly breathe in any smoke

6. Earth Cleansing
Crystals love to be grounded and returned to the earth they came from.
The recommendation is to leave them buried from one new moon to the next, but feel free to use you intuition and do what feels right to you.

7. Starlight
The moon is not the only powerful thing in the night sky. The collective celestial energy from the start, planets and galaxies will provide a powerful cleanse. We are all connected to and at one with the universe.

8. Brown Rice
In Chinese culture rice represents abundance and prosperity, in India it represents the bond between partners and it promotes fertility.
To cleanse your crystals simple submerge them in a bowl of rice overnight. Be sure to dispose the rice as it will now hold an unbalanced or negative energy.

9. Crystals
Did you know that some crystals are able to cleanse other crystals.
The most powerful cleaning crystals are:
Selenite
Clear Quartz
Carnelian
Citrine
Simply place the crystal you wish to cleanse on or near by one of these.

10. Salt
Pink or Himalayan salt is a great cleanser – simply place your crystals on top of our bury within and leave for at least an hour. Salt can be abrasive so use this method with care and be sure to dispose of the salt when you’re finished.
